THE LEADER OF THE HOUSE The Leader of the House is the Commons' chief business manager. He or she is a Cabinet Minister, and therefore responsible for defending the Government's policies in the House - but the Leader also has the wider task of upholding the rights and privileges of the House. Other tasks include announcing Parliamentary business in the House, and answering questions on it every Thursday. In procedural debates, the Leader sets out the Government's view. And when motions relating to the business of the House - including Closure motions, and disciplining individual MPs - need to be moved, he or she is usually responsible for doing so.
